Zion representatives met with other El Paso, LCMS, church representatives today to continue planning joint efforts for missions and fellowship this year. The gathering of reps is called the “Valley Lutheran Mission Task Force” and has been helpful in past years in raising up opportunities to support mission efforts in the El Paso/Juarez valley plus plan the annual joint Reformation Festival and Easter Music Festival.
This spring, in addition to the music festival, our churches rallied around the outreach projects of our Juarez missions such as providing food and games for children on Dia de los Niños (children’s day) and a Sunday school expansion at Cristo Rey Lutheran Church.
This fall, we are coming together as churches for a Reformation service to be held on October 24th at 7pm at Crosspoint Church. Also a golf tournament is being held to raise funds for Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care, which will be held on October 25th. On September 14th, a joint training event for Sunday School teachers will be held at Zion Lutheran Church.
An exciting announcement at today’s gathering was that the mission “Cristo Luz del Mundo” will be inaugurating their new worship site on Sunday, September 15th at 4pm. (at 10110 Montwood, Suite D, El Paso, TX).
The next Valley Lutheran Mission Task Force meeting will be held on Thursday, October 10th at 1pm at 301 S. Schutz Dr., building #7.
