PRAYER … God’s Gift to You

GROWTH IN PRAYER … Your Gift to God

“The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.  For we know neither how to pray nor for what to pray, but the Spirit prays for us in sighs deeper than words.  And He Who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit for the Spirit prays for His saints …” Romans 8. On the one hand Prayer could hardly be simpler … “Now I lay me down to sleep” … “Come, Lord Jesus” … “Our Father Who art in heaven” …  On the other five fingers, however, Prayer represents one of the greatest challenges and richest rewards the child of God can experience in life.  Growth in Prayer is an invitation to a deeper relationship with our heavenly Father, a more intimate walk with Christ and a greater purpose and peace in the Spirit.  As we intentionally seek to grow up into Christ and mature in His gifts we must continue in no better or more satisfying practice than growth in our prayer life together. Zion is offering and inviting you to a congregational Retreat on “Growing in the Gift of Prayer”  Saturday November 23.  The rich combination of Zion’s Fall 2013 emphasis on growing in the gifts that God gives to His people and the National Day of Thanksgiving, November 28, provides a great opportunity for us to seek the Holy Spirit’s power, purpose and peace together as we grow in our prayer life.  There is little in daily life that provides a deeper closeness to and intimacy with our heavenly Father; a greater comfort and joy in our fellowship with one another; a stronger foundation for a congregation’s worship and mission; a firmer faith and confidence for daily life than a growing personal and congregational life of prayer. We will begin the retreat with continental breakfast, 9:00 am. and conclude after lunch at 1:30 pm.  For registration please contact the church office, or fill out the forms that will be included on Sundays bulletin. Please place your registration form either in the offering plate or at the back of the church. Yes, you may invite other friends and nonmembers to grow with you.  This Retreat, designed especially for our life together at Zion, will be led by Pastor and Marilyn Patten.  It certainly seems appropriate that we invite you to …  keep this retreat in your prayers!
