Pastor Simental in Heavenly Glory

Pastor Roberto Simental would often declare with peace-filled confidence in Jesus, “My life is in God’s hands,” even as he struggled through a variety of health problems, PTSD, and many challenges in life. Roberto, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in the 1980s. Before long, he began studying to become an LCMS pastor. With his wife Norma, Roberto served the Lord in Zion’s Hispanic outreach ministries, and when he was ordained into the holy ministry in 1998 he served as pastor of El Buen Pastor Lutheran Church in McAllen, Texas.  In 2008, Roberto moved to South Gate, California, to shepherd the congregation of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He retired and returned to El Paso and Zion in 2014.
On Tuesday, October 11th, Pastor Simental died of natural causes, surrounded by family, at the age of 69. We pray for God’s grace and comfort in Jesus Christ to all who mourn, most especially for Roberto’s wife Norma, step-daughter Norma, and grandson Ivan.
