LWML News

Wow, it’s hard to believe that the month of November is already here, the season of Advent is approaching, and families are planning their Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations! Zion’s LWML met on Thursday, October 23rd, and the following are some of our recent, as well as upcoming projects/activities:

During our October meeting, a Devotion was presented by La Verna Washington, entitled “I Hate to Wait,” which was thought-provoking, as well as inspirational, for us all. In addition, members turned in the felt lacing shapes they made for the children’s bags; Marilyn Patten dedicated the finished shapes, with the reading of a beautiful Bible passage–reminding us of Jesus’ love for children, as well as a prayer. It is our prayer that these activities will be enjoyed by the children of Zion during the church services and will remind everyone of Jesus’ love for all of His children.

Since Zion’s LWML will not meet in November, plans were discussed for our upcoming Christmas activities and projects. Those are as follows:

  • LWML Christmas party/Potluck/Bingo: will be held on Thursday, December 4th, @ 5:30 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall. Krysia Heimer will present a Devotion, members will bring a savory or sweet item for our potluck, the Social Committee will plan our Bingo activity, and members are reminded to bring $5.00 to cover the cost of prizes, bring suggested gifts for children that are served by the Ysleta Lutheran Mission–a new $10.00 toy and/or new children’s underwear, and a soon-to-be announced donation to cover the cost of our Christmas project for the members of Zion on the Shepherd’s List.
  • LWML Annual Cookie Walk will be held on Sunday, December 7th, in the Fellowship Hall, after the church service. Delicious home  baked cookies will be sold for $4.00 per dozen. Members and friends of Zion are invited and encouraged to stop by and purchase some of our wonderful cookies before you leave! (*Any member of the congregation who would like to bake and donate cookies for the Cookie Walk is welcome to, also.*) We hope to see each of you there!
  • Mite Box Sunday for the month of November will be Sunday, November 30th. Please continue to place your donations of mites–coins or bills–in the purple and white Mite Box on the table at the rear of the sanctuary. Thank you for your continued support of LWML Mission Grants in El Paso, the United States, and around the world!
  • “Windows to Faith and Feast” Cookbooks are in stock and available for purchase for $20.00 each. Please keep them in mind if you are in need of a beautiful, unique gift.(Christmas is right around the corner!)…Just speak to any LWML member or call the church office and we will be glad to help you!

In closing, we wish everyone a very nice November, a safe and Happy Thanksgiving, and all of God’s Blessings! Thanks, again, for your continued support of LWML!
