Zion’s LWML met on Thursday, April 23rd, and we were blessed to have two very inspirational presentations! Elvira Viramontes, from the Ysleta Lutheran Mission, was our guest speaker. Her presentation, “Changing Lives through Simple Acts of Kindness–YLM”, gave us a very interesting history of YLM, as well as informing us about all the mission projects that YLM has here in El Paso, as well as Juarez and Chihuahua. Barbara Upsal gave a very interesting and thought-provoking devotion on details from the Bible that are mentioned, but often over-looked. She put these details in perspective in regards to God’s plan and gave us some information to look over and study. We all learned something new and appreciate all the time and research she put into planning the Devotion!
Other items discussed at our April meeting included an update on the Easter Lilies and cards taken to Shepherd’s List members, the ballot for officers for LWML for next year, our upcoming May dinner meeting, and our Summer Project to benefit Ysleta Lutheran Mission. Some of those details are as follows:
As we head into the month of May, LWML Mite Box Sunday will be on Sunday, May 24th and our last meeting for 2014-2015 will be on Thursday, May 28th, at 5:30 p.m., at Michelino’s Italian Restaurant, 3615 Rutherglen Street. Members are welcome/encouraged to bring husbands, friends, and/or other family members to this dinner meeting. Election/installation of officers will take place, Peggy Djerf will present a Devotion, and plans will be finalized for our upcoming summer project. It will be an evening of fellowship, fun, and delicious food, as we bring this year to a close…”Serving the Lord with Gladness”.
Our summer project will be an ingathering of Items to be donated to Ysleta Lutheran Mission to support their Backpacks and School Supplies Program, which benefits children in need in El Paso and Juarez. As in the past, LWML is inviting all the members and friends of Zion to participate in this very worthwhile project. Items that are needed are as follows: *Backpacks for students–new or gently used*, Notebooks (spiral and/or three ring), Notebook paper (wide and/or college ruled), Ball point pens (blue and/or black ink), Pencils (#2 lead and/or colored pencils), Coloring books (all ages), Watercolors and brushes, chalk (for chalkboards), Soccer balls. **Items for donation may be placed in designated boxes/baskets under the pool table in the Fellowship Hall and will be delivered to the Ysleta Lutheran Mission.**
In addition, “Windows to Faith and Feast” Cookbooks are in stock and available for purchase for $20.00 each. Please keep them in mind if you are in need of a gift for someone special! They make wonderful wedding, birthday, and even graduation gifts! Just speak to any LWML member or call the church office and we will be glad to help you!
In closing, we wish everyone a marvelous May and all of God’s Blessings! Thanks, again, for your continued support of LWML and its projects/activities. We are looking forward to a successful summer project benefitting Ysleta Lutheran Mission and appreciate everyone’s help in this endeavor!
