Here at Zion Day School, we would like to encourage our children to eat healthier. We are asking that except for special occasions, you send nutritious snacks when it is your turn. Please take a look at the list of suggestions. I’m sure you will have some great ideas of your own. Teachers will let you know how many days to sign up for on the snack calendar by your child’s classroom door.

**Please note that there are some restrictions due to the age of the children, and regulations we must follow (from the Health Dept. and State Licensing).
DUE TO PEANUT ALLERGIES, WE ARE EXCLUDING ANY AND ALL SNACKS THAT CONTAIN NUTS- INCLUDING PEANUT BUTTER.

The state requirement for snacks is that they contain 1 serving from ONE of the following:

  • Grains
  • Protein
  • Fruit/vegetable
  • Dairy

You can comply with this regulation every snack day by bringing 100% juice as a drink. We are now requiring that all fruit drinks be 100% juice (not just 100% Vitamin C). All drinks must be prepackaged by the manufacturer in individual serving sized portions. Capri Suns do not qualify unless it is the new 100% juice. No HI- C. Drinks must be 100% juice or milk/ yogurt. Again, these must be prepackaged by the manufacturer in individual serving sized containers, and they must be in a cooler with a frozen ice- pack.

**Please, no water, we must serve 100% juice or milk.**

The health dept. requires that the snacks be pre-packaged by the manufacturer in individual serving sized portions:

SNACK IDEAS:

  • Low-fat Cheese Sticks or Bars
  • Teddy Grahams

Please, no Little Debbie Snacks, cookies or chips except for special occasions.

Any snack requiring refrigeration, must be in a cooler with a frozen ice pack. Please send any spoons or plates that are needed with your snack.

4 & 5 yr. old classes

We can have special treats when bringing snacks that begin with the letter of the week. We still need these to be pre- packaged by the manufacturer in individual serving sized portions.

NO HOT DOGS — even in the children’s lunches. They are too easily choked on.

2/3 Yr. Olds

Grapes must be cut in half

Do Not Send:

  • popcorn
  • raisins
  • raw carrots

Thank you for your cooperation!
