“Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
2 For behold, darkness shall cover the earth,
and thick darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will arise upon you,
and his glory will be seen upon you.
3 And nations shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your rising…
6b …They shall bring gold and frankincense,
and shall bring good news,
the praises of the Lord.”
(Isaiah 60:1-3,6b OT Lesson for Epiphany Day)
2017 is upon us after an uplifting month of Advent and Christmas celebration and outreach. Having renewed our hope in Christ through the remembrance of our Lord’s Advent promises and Christmas accomplishments, we marvel now in the Epiphany-revelation of Christ’s Gospel mission for the world. “Arise! Shine!” Yes, you and I need Christ’s light to shine in us for our own good and so does the world around us. I invite you to gather this month for worship, Bible study, fellowship, and service not only for your own joy in the gifts, power, and purposes of God but for the sake of those around you who desperately need the light of Christ to shine in you through the good deeds and faith-filled words that would break through darkened perspectives and point them to their savior.
