A Personal Account from the LWML Convention

What a Blessing it was to attend the 2017 National LWML Convention, “Jesus Christ Above All”, which was held June 22nd thru 25th, in Albuquerque, New Mexico! Jan Borschtnik, Linda Chaumont, Mary Anne Hansen, Hannah Jackson, and Lydia Williams joined over 3,000 other LWML sisters from all over the country, which also marked the 75th Anniversary of LWML, Lutheran Women in Mission!

Since I would not be able to attend the entire convention, I arrived early to help set up. Several ladies and I set up the LWML Store, “The Fiesta Market”, in the Exhibit Hall. Items included Bibles, Bible Study and Devotion materials, books, clothing, jewelry, cups, water bottles, tote bags…and so much more! It was amazing to see all that goes on behind the scenes–before a Convention starts!

Jan, Linda, Mary Anne and I participated in a Servant Event. We helped tie fleece blankets, which will be donated to Veteran’s Homes, Nursing Homes, and others. This Servant Event took place in a huge room at the Convention Center, with many busy ladies helping complete the activities: marking Bibles, making cards for cancer patients, and tying quilts and blankets! We met ladies from all over the country while we were working…and when a table completed a blanket, they all held it up in the air and cheered! It was quite fun to hear the joyous “whoops of celebration” all around! Hannah Jackson visited us while she was waiting to meet with the Young Women’s Representatives (YWR’s). It was great to spend time with Hannah!

The Opening Meeting/Church Service was held Thursday evening, June 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. Wow! What an impressive event! There were over 3,500 people in attendance, a huge choir, Pastor Stephen Heimer was the trumpeter. We celebrated Holy Communion…what a unique, uplifting experience, with so many people! We were so proud when Pastor Stephen’s photo was on the “big screen” as he played his trumpet! We were Blessed to have Mariachi San Pablo there to share music, the Word and the great work/Outreach that goes on at the Ysleta Lutheran Mission!

The convention was truly inspiring and impressive!
